HIV Caring Ministries
Statistics say that five people die of AIDS every minute and nine people more are infected by HIV. In the United States, HIV infection is rising the fastest in two main groups: Youth/Young adults and Seniors over 55. With the help of TIHAN (Tucson Interfaith HIV AIDS Network), we have developed a strong Education and Prevention Curriculum. The goal of the HIV/AIDS Ministries of the Desert Southwest Conference is to present this curriculum to as many youth groups, young adult groups, women’s and men’s groups, and senior groups as possible. If you are interested in offering an AIDS education and prevention seminar to a group in your church, please let us know. For more information on any of these areas, please contact Joshua Warner at HIVministries@dscumc.org.
Strength for the Journey 2017
Celebrating 25 years of ministry to the HIV/AIDS community, HIV Caring Ministries is pleased to host the annual 2016 Strength For The Journey retreat for those infected by HIV/AIDS and their caregivers. The retreat will take place at the Mingus Mountain Camp & Retreat Center in Prescott May 18 - May 21 in 2017. Registration will open October 1, 2016.
The purpose of the retreat is to create a respite from the challenges that come from an HIV diagnosis. The retreat will provide opportunities to grow and develop caring relationships in a safe, loving, and caring environment. Activities during the retreat will include discussion groups, hiking, crafts and tie-dye as well as opportunities for prayer and meditation.
Transportation may be available from Phoenix and Tucson. Partial scholarships are also available on a limited basis. For questions about registration or scholarships, please send an email to HIVministries@dscumc.org or call Linda Girard at (520) 797-8803.
The HIV Caring Ministries is also seeking scholarship funds to ensure that campers are not limited by finances to attend the retreat. If you'd like to sponsor a camper ($170), or give any amount towards the scholarship fund, please use either the online donation form (which accepts both credit cards and e-checking transfers) or the downloadable (PDF) scholarship/donation form linked below. That form can also be printed and used to seek support from other organizations and businesses.
