Día del Migrante - Day of the Migrant - February 17, 2013
"An invitation to observe Day of the Migrant with the other four United Methodist conferences and the three conferences of the Methodist Church of Mexico adjoining the U.S.-Mexican Border"

The Methodist Border Mission Network invites all churches in the conference to participate in a special celebration on February 17, 2013 of Día del Migrante - Day of the Migrant.

This is part of a joint action with other annual conferences along both sides of the U.S./Mexico border, coordinated by the Methodist Border Mission Network. The network consists of key leaders from each of the five conferences of The United Methodist Church and the three conferences of the Methodist Church of Mexico. It coordinates relief action all along the border.

February 17 was chosen because all congregations in the Methodist Church of Mexico already celebrate the Día del Migrante each year on the third Sunday in February. This is a good opportunity for us to be in solidarity.

This is not a time to focus on issues of U.S. immigration, per se. Rather it is a moment to reflect upon what it means to be a migrant in the world and what the church's mission might be with migrants everywhere.

We invite churches to share with us what they are doing that day, including materials they have prepared.

Some materials already have been prepared to assist local churches in this process:
