Volunteers ‘Impact Las Vegas’ by cleaning area trails
Las Vegas, NV: Beyond the bright lights and commotion of the Las Vegas strip, there are nearly 60 miles of hiking, biking and equestrian trails.
“Within the entire city, there are only three staff members who coordinate clean-ups and volunteer projects for the six city wards,” said Impact Las Vegas 2012 organizer, Glen Simpson. “Ideally, these paths could be used as safe routes to school for students, alternative transportation means for commuters and free exercise options for everyone, but many residents do not even know they exist.”
On Saturday, February 18, volunteering locals and visitors will join hearts and hands for a community-wide clean-up day from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. for the first annual Impact Las Vegas 2012. The efforts will help keep Las Vegas trails open, safe and enjoyable. Volunteers will be working at three hiking trail areas and one park.
An expected 300 volunteers will clean and clear access points to two sections of the Bonanza Trail and one section of the Las Vegas Wash Trail. The group plans to paint over graffiti and remove trash and broken glass. Additionally, more volunteers will repaint tables and benches at Myron Leavitt Park.
Impact Las Vegas 2012 is organized by Relevance X, a young adult ministry conference held in Las Vegas. Sponsors for Impact Las Vegas 2012 include United Methodist Communications, area United Methodist churches, The Outside Las Vegas Foundation, corporate volunteer groups and local residents.
The event urges participants to Rethink Church and utilizes outreach to make a difference in the world beyond church doors.
